Go from one side to the other, Action Workshop, November 2019

During three days and in different places of the city, Aprendanza offers various activities and workshops – around the body, movement, and living arts and their role in education – to many people previously registered.

For the last closing event, they asked me to generate a moment of encounter with all the participants, leave the interior spaces, and move towards the city. Among the venues where Aprendanza takes place, I chose those closest to each other to facilitate the arrival of the participants. These where La Casa Encendida (LCE) and Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería y Diseño Industrial (ETSIDI).

The characteristics of these two spaces and their location in the urban setting are the proposal’s starting point. The ETSIDI and LCE buildings are located in front of the other, separated by a large avenue. Their facades coincide for about 25 meters, as do their windows on its four floors. Besides, there is a secondary door of ETSIDI facing the main entrance of LCE.

The proposal offers a double “workshop” in the same way in two spaces simultaneously, without being announced. Depending on the venue the participants chose, they are on one side or the other of the street.

A small loudspeaker on each venue allows the two groups to discover each other, listen to each other and communicate. Both groups receive the proposal at the same time. First, we show the maps and spatial situation of both buildings. Then, the groups place their bodies in front of each window. After an agreed time, both groups go to the doors and cross the street in a straight line, interrupting traffic flow, and changing sides.
