Invite everyone, Exhibition Intervention, March 2024

Inviting everyone to access and use the space 24/7.

In the series “Invited by” by Kevin Space, Kevin invited the artist Aaron Amar to invite another artist working outside Viena to do a duo show together. Aaron invited me. We did not know each other. Aaron had an idea of creating a composition and a rehearsal setting for a choir of four voices: four chairs, four scores, and some glasses of water. I took both elements, the invitation with the implicit trust and the choir with the potential to be used, and proposed to extend them and invite anyone to access and use the space. After some conversations, we agreed that anyone physically present in the room during the opening event or the regular opening hours could approach the Kevin Space team members, acquire the code, and gain access to the exhibition room. The protocol for using the space would be established simply by a handshake (literal or metaphorical) between hosts and visitors trusting each other.

We prepared the space by dismantling the indoor handles, blocking the storage room, changing the lock cylinder, and emptying it. For the opening, we had an open conversation. And then, from week to week, some traces appeared from the people who used the space.
